so I know that this isn’t the blog that I promised that I would share with y’all first but God really but it on my heart to share this with y’all. So last year, I had to do this project in my creative writing class called a capstone project, and for those of y’all who don’t know what a capstone project is, it’s pretty much where you combine a bunch of different sources and some of your own words into one big, long essay, and then you share it. I choose for my topic to be “You are Priceless,” and within the first week of that class, I had written the entire thing. And God just really put it on my heart to share it with y’all even though it has been over a year since it was written. I will give credit to all my sources down below, and I hope that you enjoy my it!
You Are Priceless-Capstone Speech by Leigh Blanchard, time: 10 minutes 37 seconds
Lie #7: “beautiful girls are worth more” now, not many girls will come right out and say-or think- that they have to be as beautiful as the airbrushed models on a magazine, but they do have insanely unreal expectations for themselves in the area of beauty. What I’ve been dying to tell y’all and hear me out when I say this is… you are priceless, you are priceless, you are worth more than the number that they rate you, you are worth more than the size clothes that you wear, you are worth more than how skinny your waist is, you are worth more than the gap in between your thighs, you are worth more than the pictures that they ask you for, you are worth than the names that they call you, you are worth more… you, you are priceless. People these days tend to think that they need to look a certain way or do certain things in order to be loved or be accepted by society and that is not okay. Now, I’m guilty of this too, there have been times when I have looked at myself and said that I’m not worth it or I’m not beautiful or pretty. But everyone needs to know that they are priceless and they are beautiful in the eyes of the Creator.
From the words of Sadie Robertson,Taylor Swift, the Bible, songs like “scars to your beautiful” by Alyssa Cara,“Priceless” by for King and Country, and “Lies that Young Women Believe” by Dannah Gresh and Nancy Leigh Demoss we will take a journey ultimately ending with the same thing. You are Priceless.. She has dreams to be an envy, so she’s starving, You know, “Cover Girls eat nothing.”, She says, “Beauty is pain and there’s beauty in everything.”, “What’s a little bit of hunger?”, “I could go a little while longer,” she fades away. Perhaps you don’t have the great blonde locks of Heidi Klum or the statuesque beauty of Tyra Banks but we believe that God created you and that “you’re fearfully and wonderfully made” as Psalm 139:14 says. You are priceless and you are beautiful. I don’t care who you are, what you’ve been through, what you think you are, what you call yourself, whatever they call you or what they tell you to call yourself.. I don’t care because you are worth more. And you’re seeing all these angles of your own life and then you compare it to the lives of others when you don’t see what they are going through you just see what they want you to see. Am I right? And so I say to you, when you start to compare yourself to other people please, change the channel in your mind to something else because I think that when it comes to how we see ourselves, people are mean but we are REALLY mean when it comes to ourselves. And so it is easy to get confused and when you do get confused and you start feeling like you are not special and don’t have anything important to say and we all feel like that sometimes. but since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. Isaiah 43:4.
I think when we are young we have the idea of this Prince Charming and this fairytale that is going to come into our life and we look for it and we look for it and we look for it until we forget how to look for it and we forget it and we accept the reality of our world we stop respecting ourselves because we think that we are not going to be accepted by someone else… Because we accept the reality that we’ve been given, we accept the numbers that they gave us, we accept all these things that they call us but we don’t have too. There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark, You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are, And you don’t have to change a thing, The world could change its heart, No scars to your beautiful, we’re stars and we’re beautiful. The list of how girls act because they feel worthless is long:
I’ve heard it all, I’ve heard the hurtful things that they say and for a second I believed it, I looked at myself in the mirror and I didn’t see my worth, I looked in the mirror and I didn’t see that I was worth more than what they were telling me but now I sit here with a smile on my face and a smile on my heart believing in love because I believe in God. Because God is love. Because the prince of peace because the fairytale that I have always looked for died on the cross, bought with a price to let me know how worth it I am, to let me know how worthy of love I am. He tells me that I am altogether beautiful, He loves me… You are altogether beautiful my darling, there is not one flaw in you, Song of Solomon 4:7 Mirror, mirror on the wall, telling those lies, pointing out your flaws, That isn’t who you are, for it might be hard to hear, But let me tell you, dear, if only you could see what I can see, I know you would believe, That isn’t who you are,for there’s more to who you are. She just wants to be beautiful, She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits, She craves attention, she praises an image,She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor, No, she don’t see the light that’s shining, Deeper than the eyes can find it, maybe we have made her blind, So she tries to cover up her pain, and cut her woes away, ‘Cause cover girls don’t cry after their face is made
Lie #8: “I have to act a certain way in order for people to love me” A whopping 95% of girls admit that they believe this lie. Yes, I know that it might feel like everyone, including God and your parents, is judging you based on how you act. But is that true? NO! God’s view of you is different, He says that your value is not determined by what you do. He loves you and you are His child. Yes there was a time in my life when I looked at myself and I believed them. I believed the lies people told me. It started slowly, just the one time when we tell ourselves that lie but then it progressed to every move that we made in our lives is to impress people. We live for the Instagram, or for the snapchat, or the pictures that people took. Our lives was based on how we look and we make the devastating mistake of believing them. I see you dressed in white, every wrong made right, I see a rose in bloom at the sight of you. You are so priceless, Irreplaceable, unmistakable, incomparable, Darling, it’s beautiful, I see it all in you, You are priceless. No matter what you’ve heard, this is what you’re worth, more than all the money or the diamonds and pearls. You are Priceless. No better you than the you that you are, No better life than the life we’re living, No better time for your shine, you’re a star, Oh, you’re beautiful I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this. Psalm 139:14 He knitted you together in your mother’s womb and declared that you are “wonderfully made”(Psalm 139:14). He loved you before you could love Him(1 John 4:9). And, if you belong to Him, nothing can ever separate you from His love(Romans 8: 38-39).
Your Value isn’t determined what you do, it isn’t even determined by anyone on this earth, it’s determined by God. And you are Priceless to Him. I still sometimes look at myself and I doubt it. NO! You are priceless. The lies? All False. Jesus says that you don’t disappoint anyone! And you surely don’t disappoint Him so now, with a smile on my face, I can say YOU ARE PRICELESS, I AM PRICELESS, WE ARE ALL PRICELESS and Jesus loves every single one of us. “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:16 So when it’s late, You’re wide awake and there is too much to take don’t you dare forget, that in the pain, You can be brave, hear me say You are Priceless. “She is worth far more than rubies and pearls” Proverbs 31:10. And what I want you to do right now, if you’re going to remember one thing from this talk I want it to be this. You need to look in the mirror in the morning and not tell yourself that you’re not special or not enough or not complete or not awesome. Because I am going to tell you what you are, you are your own definition of beautiful and worthwhile, you are someone who is wiser because you made mistakes no damaged. You know it’s not about perfection, its about you. You are perfection and do you not understand me when I say this? You are worth more! You are not defined by the size of your waist, the size of pants that you wear, you are not defined by whether your thighs touch or not, you are not defined by them. You are worth more than it all. You are worth more than the number of touchdowns that you get, or the baskets that you shoot, or the how many home runs you hit, or how many goals you score, or how long you can run or the time it takes to do so. You are worth more than the color of your hair, the color of your eyes, color of your skin, how tall you are, how skinny you are, how “perfect” you are. You are worth more than your average in class. You are worth more than how many people like you, or how many friends you have to sit with at lunch. You are worth more than how loud or soft your voice is, or how outgoing or shy you are, or if you get in trouble or not. You are not defined by them.
God tells you that He made you absolutely perfect and you are His. Don’t believe that you are not enough because you don’t look right or you act right. They are all lies. So right now if you’re in a dark place like I was, and you don’t feel like you are worth it, you begin to believe the number that you’ve been given, No! No, you are worth more than that!! You are priceless. Jesus, Jesus literally died to let you know how priceless you are… so believe in that. Believe that you are priceless.
So that was it my loves! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this and I pray you remember that this applies to you! No matter your age or gender or anything else, you are priceless in the eyes of God! I love yall so stinking much and you are priceless!
